  • Protecting the Property: The number of occupants directly impacts potential wear and tear on the property. Knowing this beforehand allows for better management and ensures a smooth handover at the end of the tenancy.
  • Effective Communication: Having your hometown on file can be incredibly useful in case of emergencies or communication difficulties. For example, if there’s a language barrier, knowing your background can help bridge the gap and ensure important information is relayed effectively.
  • Building the Legal Framework: Essential details like your move-in date and the number of occupants become part of the tenancy agreement, a legally binding contract.

Remember: There are no specific laws dictating what information a landlord can request in Malaysia. However, open communication is key. If you’re uncomfortable sharing something, politely explain your concerns and offer an alternative, such as a reference from a previous landlord.
